What Is Email Marketing?

What Is Email Marketing

If I may put it in simple words, email marketing is the use of emails to communicate with your audience to achieve a specific business goal.

You can send emails to inform your audience about your products or services, educate them, share resources to help them, and promote your affiliate links.

Many successful Affiliate Marketers use email marketing to send newsletters, generate sales, generate more leads, create brand awareness, and engage and share offers with their audience.

You can utilise email marketing to educate your existing audience or subscribers and attract potential customers by offering a free and valuable resource.

Anytime you send an email to your audience, it is considered email marketing. Through email marketing, you can keep your audience informed and tailor emails as per their needs, desires, and goals. However, if done in the wrong way, you will make your customers run away.

Why Is Email Marketing Important?

Email is a 50-year-old technology that is used more than ever in today’s day and age. With the rising popularity of social media platforms, you cannot help but wonder if people still use emails.

Although social media platforms are spreading like wildfire, email still plays a pivotal role in Affiliate Marketing. So, rather than ignoring email and email marketing, you must use it for the below reasons:

Reason 1: You Can Inform Your Customers Of Your Products Or Services

Reason 1 - You Can Inform Your Customers Of Your Products Or Services

Through emails, you can inform your customers of your products and services. Through email marketing tools, you can capture leads, build your brand’s awareness, keep your audience engaged, and generate sales at a comparatively lesser cost.

Emails keep your audience informed and they are able to check your emails when it is convenient for them. When you inform them about the latest developments, they get a feeling that you are thinking about them.

When you send emails that are valuable, your audience will love reading and engaging with them.

Reason 2: Email Marketing Will Save You A Lot Of Money

Reason 2 - Email Marketing Will Save You A Lot Of Money

Yes, I will talk about money, now!

As per my experience, email marketing is the most cost-efficient strategy you must use to reach and engage with your target audience.

In comparison to traditional marketing techniques like television or print ads that will drain your wallet quickly, email marketing has only the subscription cost, usually about $10 – or even less!

For example, the email marketing tool that I use costs only $9 a month which is way less than other forms of marketing.

Reason 3: You Can Automate Email Marketing

Reason 3 - You Can Automate Email Marketing

The most striking feature of email marketing is that it can be automated! Many other marketing techniques need some manual intervention, but email marketing can be automated to the extent that you can even set and forget.

To automate your emails, use an Email Marketing Tool or Email Autoresponder like Moosend. Automating your emails can help you reach your audience in a systematic, timely manner.

To automate your emails, you can set a trigger that activates automation and send one email every day, every 2 days, every week, and so on.

For example, suppose you create a lead form, integrate it into a list, create an automation sequence, and set the trigger to “When someone submits a form.”

Now, let’s say a visitor land on your website and submits the lead form. As soon as the visitor submits the form, they will receive an automated email for as long as your email automation chain.

Thanks to automation, you do not have to worry about sending emails every day. You can set everything once and let the email autoresponder work its magic.

The time you save with automation will enable you to focus on other core areas of your business.

Reason 4: You Can Measure Your Email Marketing Efforts

Reason 4 - You Can Measure Your Email Marketing Efforts

The only way to know if your Affiliate Marketing campaign is working is by measuring results. Thanks to state-of-the-art email marketing tools like Moosend, you can easily measure your performance on a one-page dashboard.

When you have the performance in front of your eyes in the form of numbers and charts, guesswork is eliminated and you can see clearly what is working and what isn’t.

The email marketing platforms provide you with crucial statistics, such as:

  • The number of link clicks
  • The number of emails opened
  • The number of people who unsubscribed

With data at your disposal, you can understand how your emails are performing, which ones could be improved, and which ones could be stopped. This, in turn, will enhance your email marketing performance.

Reason 5: People Open Your Emails

Reason 5 - People Open Your Emails

Since emails came into existence, they have been a popular form of communication. Due to its popularity, all the successful Affiliate Marketers use email as their preferred choice of communication.

The greatest thing about emails is: People engage with emails in some manner.

For example, people reply to emails, forward them, click something within them, or buy something.

Knowing that people engage with emails, you can use emails to encourage people to perform some action – visiting your website, registering for a webinar, purchasing your affiliate product, etc.

Reason 6: Email Marketing Increases Brand Awareness

Reason 6 - Email Marketing Increases Brand Awareness

Many Affiliate Marketers believe social media platforms are the best to boost their brand awareness. Although social media plays a role in spreading brand awareness, I will not say it is the best method.

I feel that when you have someone’s email address, they have shown interest in your business, okay? Through email marketing, you can increase that interest by sending emails regularly.

Also keep in mind that when you send emails, do not sell all the time. I have observed many companies who sell in every email they send and completely turn a blind eye to people’s aspirations.

When you sell in every email, you fail to build trust and people, in fact, start to hate you!

Email Marketing Stats

Many marketers believe that as the number of users of social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter is increasing, it is the most effective way to reach the masses.

However, what we do not know about the good old Email is:

Stat #1: 4 billion users use Email worldwide. And this number is expected to rise up to 4.5 billion by 2024.

Stat #2: 3 million Emails are sent every second!

Stat #3: There are 7 billion Email accounts.

Stat #4: Data breaches and privacy concerns have forced people to exit some social media channels. Hence, when it comes to connecting with customers, there is no channel with a wider reach than Email.

Stat #5: There are 3x more email accounts than Facebook and Twitter combined!

Stat #6: People actually see Emails!

Do you know 90% of Emails are delivered to your inboxes, whereas only 2% of your friends or followers see your posts in their News Feed?

This means that your email is 45 times more likely to be seen using Email. Moreover, to register on Facebook and Instagram, you’d need to enter your Email, isn’t it?

Stat #7: The laws and regulations around spam Emails. You receive Emails because you have given them permission. However, did you let Facebook advertisers market you? Maybe not, but you still see their ads, right?

Stat #8: The average CTR or the Click-through Rate of an Email campaign is around 3%, whereas that from a tweet is just 0.5%.

That means if your Email or promotion was sent 1000 times through Email and 1000 times through Twitter, 30 people will actually open your Email and only 5 people will open your tweet.

Stat #9: According to a survey conducted by Monetate, 42.2% of visitors via Email buy your product as compared to 2.49% from Search Engines and only 0.59% from social media.

Stat #10: Email marketing gives a Return on Investment of 42x. This means that for every rupee or dollar you invested in Email Marketing, you would make 43.

Stat #11: Email is an open platform. You know, over the years brands have spent millions of dollars in order to communicate with their audience.

Although businesses invest in Facebook and Twitter, the platforms have updated their algorithms to reduce the number of followers who see the brand’s posts. This practise has become so prevalent that 98% of followers never see the brand’s posts in their News Feeds.

The issue with Facebook and Twitter is that they are owned and controlled which means that the marketers are at the mercy of changes these platforms make. On the other hand, email is not owned by any one particular entity. It’s an open communication platform and no one party can make changes.

Therefore, if you invest your time and money into building and nurturing your leads, it will be an asset of your own. Then you will be able to leverage your list to make more without the threat of someone limiting you.

So those were the top 11 stats and facts about Email and I hope you now get the idea of why I call it the biggest asset for an online business or an affiliate marketer.

How To Make The Most Of Email Marketing?

Now, I will tell you how you can leverage email marketing to get the most out of your campaigns.

One thing I always urge my students to follow is placing a lead form on the landing page of your website and the landing page of your campaign.

In the lead form, encourage visitors to enter their details in order to get something of value for free!

Once you have their emails, you can educate them, provide value and promote your products.

In essence, your typical funnel should look like this:

Step 1: People will visit your website from various traffic sources such as YouTube, Facebook, Google, and so on.

When they visit your website, you should capture their Emails.

Once you have got their Emails, you must send them a welcome email.

Then the second Email onwards, you can start to share about your business. You can invite them to your live webinars. You can also do a Facebook or an Instagram Live and invite the people from your Email list, alright?

Step 2: Now, when you have people on your Email list, you can send them as many Emails as you want. There is usually no cap on the number of emails you can send. However, there are a few auto-responders that charge you if the number of Emails crosses a particular limit.

And, once you have people on your Email list you can send them a series of Emails called a Sequence or Chain. You can send as many emails as you want in an Email Sequence or Email Chain, OK?

You can either send Emails daily, every 2 days, every 3 days, every Monday, every week and so on.

The Email sequence can be manual, you can send an email by typing a new one every day, for example. Or you can set up automated Emails which are sent every day. The process of sending an automated Email sequence is called Automation.

You can also segment the people in your Email list basis their actions. For example, you can define a segment for people who did not purchase your course, you can segment people basis who attended your webinar and who did not.

You can also segment them based on several conditions, for example, you can create a different segment for people who watched your webinar and bought your course than the people who watched your webinar but did not purchase, OK?

Step 3: The third step of the funnel will be a webinar page where you will educate your audience and provide them value.

Step 4: The fourth step will be the sales page where people will buy your product.

Step 5: And, the fifth step will be the thank you page which will load post-purchase.
