If you want to stand out from every other Affiliate Marketer, you need to build trust. A high-quality product is only half the battle, but if you can earn your customers’ trust with exceptional service, you might get their loyalty, too.
In our everyday lives, we listen to our friends, family, neighbours, etc. and, usually, buy the product (or products) they suggest. Why? Because we trust them!
Building trust in Affiliate Marketing is difficult, especially if you are new to the market. However, with exceptional service and taking care of people who pay you, you can build a following of loyal and raving fans.
So to help you build trust, I will share the top 12 tips. Read on to know more.
(1) Your Intentions

This is the most crucial step to building trust with your customers. Although the ultimate goal of Affiliate Marketing is to make money, your intentions and authenticity will help build trust with your customers.
If you are doing Affiliate Marketing only to make money with no consideration for your audience’s needs and problems, they are going to sense your energy. You need to introspect and determine whether you are doing Affiliate Marketing only for making money or helping people.
Get real with yourself and identify why you are doing Affiliate Marketing. You may be helping people, but if your first goal is making money, you are just another Affiliate Marketer who wants to attract money.
The best way to realise your intentions, as shared by my mentor, is to determine if your thoughts, words, and actions are in alignment. If you say what you think and do what you say, you will make a genuine impact on people and the market.
(2) Offer Exceptional Customer Service

The service you provide to your customers can go a long way in building trust and loyalty. Not only do you need to offer a great product, but you also need to provide support to solve their problems.
When you go out of your way to help your customers, it demonstrates your commitment to their interests, challenges, and goals. It also shows that you care for your customers and are not in a transactional business.
Your support and help also let your customers know that they are in good hands and if they ever face a problem, you are there to assist them.
(3) Be Vulnerable With Your Audience

To connect with your audience on a deeper level, you need to open up with them. You are a human being with weaknesses, challenges, and bad experiences. When you share them with your audience, they empathise with you and you become one of them.
When you become vulnerable and open up, they will respect you and that will build trust.
(4) Stick To Your Mission

When I used to work as a web analyst, I observed that my seniors changed their mission every 2-3 months. Observing and working with them made me confused about their ultimate goal.
So it is crucial that your ultimate mission, your core message does not change. For instance, I stand for financial independence and, if you explore my website, you will find that my core message never changes.
I will add that your methods can change, but your mission should be fixed. For example, if your goal as an Affiliate Marketer is to promote health-related products and help people become their fittest selves, you can share different techniques, diet plans, exercises, etc. but you should not change your ultimate mission.
(5) Get Good At Solving One Problem

When you start Affiliate Marketing, you should become a problem solver. Rather than selling products, you should sell solutions.
Your customers are looking for solutions to, for example, money problems, health problems, relationship problems, etc. Hence, solve only one problem and become so good at it that you become an authoritative figure.
Have a big mission and create content that helps people through your content. When you create content that helps people and solves their problems, regularly, they will start recognising you as an expert in that niche.
(6) Stop Putting Up A Show

This is a biggie! I have seen many Affiliate Marketers promote their products by dancing on social media. Although they look cool in their costumes and moves, they can never build a loyal customer base.
Secondly, if you don’t provide value, you will be another short-lived sensation. No matter what you promote, you should always share content that helps people, solves their problems, and provides value.
Be genuine and the value you provide is enough to attract the right audience.
(7) Stick To Your Word

To build trust with your audience, nothing is more important than sticking to your word. In my 4 years as an Affiliate Marketer, I have observed many Affiliate Marketers do not have a consistent message. They say different things to everyone.
If you want to build a loyal customer base, you should be loyal to everything you do. If you say that your webinar is on Monday, conduct a webinar on Monday. If you say your product costs $100, sell it for $100. If you say the discount is available for 7 days, it should be available for 7 days.
Your word should be minted in stone. You must do what you say. Your word is your bond. You should build discipline and, as the adage goes, you should be strict with yourself and easy with others.
(8) Focus On Your Community’s Growth

When I started Affiliate Marketing, I learned that you should never sell products, you should sell solutions. So whatever you sell, make sure it helps your audience grow.
Always remember that when you help people achieve their goals, you achieve your goals. When your students or customers become successful, you become successful.
To encourage your community, you can interview people who achieved success. From those interviews, the other members of your community will be inspired to succeed. Such success stories instil a belief in people’s minds that if the other person can do it, they can do it!
(9) Never Bash Down Your Competition

Although this might sound counterintuitive, it is to be kept in mind that you do not say anything negative about your competition. If you do not have anything positive to say about your competition, it is better to keep quiet rather than to say negative things.
You might have heard, “Bad publicity is also publicity.” So when you say negative things about your competitors, you are promoting them for free.
I know many Affiliate Marketers who mock me, and criticise me, but are they actually kicking my butt? No! They are promoting me! So whenever such a thing occurs, I count it as a lottery!
You do not need to put anybody down. Your work, your actions, your audience, and your success stories will speak for you! So, focus on your work, focus on helping your community, and leave the rest to your community’s growth.
(10) Be Who You Want Your Customers To Be

I am a cricketer-turned-Affiliate Marketer and when I used to play cricket, I heard this so many times: “A captain is as good as his/her team.”
So be the person you want your customers to be. If you want your customers to invest in themselves, you invest in yourself first. If you want your customers to improve, you improve yourself first.
Your community is your reflection. If you want them to be committed, you become committed yourself first. Don’t say anything you never do. Don’t ask your community to do something you never do.
First, do something, get results, and then demand your community to do the same.
(11) Create Strong Relationships With Your Customers

One of the most important things to building trust with your audience is to build lifelong relationships. You can form lifelong relationships by:
(1) Making A Connection
Making a connection with your audience is the first step to building a lifelong relationship with them. You can connect with them through webinars, videos, ads, blog posts, emails, etc.
To connect with your audience on a deeper level, you should understand their problems, challenges, and goals.
(2) Be Compassionate
Every customer is going through certain problems that they need help with. If you can understand them and show compassion, they will open up with you and that will build a deeper connection.
Showing compassion also shows that you care about your customers and you want to help them overcome their challenges.
(3) Communicate With Them
Staying in touch with your customers is important to build strong trust. You can communicate with them through social media DMs (I love it), emails, webinars, one-to-one calls, etc.
(12) Ask For Feedback

Asking your existing customers for feedback about your products is essential to know if you and your products (and services) are helping them.
It is important to measure customer satisfaction by asking them what they think about your products (and service). Based on their feedback, you can make important business decisions and modify your products, if required.
You can collect your customers’ feedback by sharing feedback forms, conducting surveys, and sending emails. In your feedback form, you can the following questions:
- Have your products delivered what they expected?
- Do they get help and support when needed?
- Are they satisfied with your service and experience?
- Are your products easy to understand and implement?
- What more do they hope to see in your products?
Based on their feedback, you could look for opportunities to improve your products. When you make changes based on your customers’ feedback, you show them that their input matters and that has a positive impact on your business.
