Habit 1: Gratitude Statements

Gratitude Statements

By definition, Gratitude Statements are statements of thankfulness for the things in one’s life.

The gratitude statements can take many forms, but the idea is to focus on the good things in life and acknowledge them with a sense of appreciation.

Some examples of gratitude statements include:

  • “I am grateful for the house that I live in.”
  • “I am grateful for my health and the ability to move.”
  • “I am thankful for my family and the love and support they provide.”
  • “I am grateful for the opportunities I have to learn and grow.”

Many spiritual gurus say that gratitude statements are simple yet powerful tools for cultivating a positive mindset and focusing on the good things in life.

By regularly practising gratitude or thankfulness, I have been feeling good about myself, stress and anxiety have been alleviated, and I feel joyful throughout the day.

Benefits Of Gratitude Statements

According to studies, expressing gratitude has been linked to several benefits, including:

  • Improved mental health: Gratitude can boost positive emotions and reduce negative emotions, leading to improved mental well-being.
  • Better relationships: Expressing gratitude towards others can strengthen relationships, increase feelings of social support, and improve overall satisfaction.
  • Increased resilience: Gratitude can help individuals cope with difficult or stressful situations by fostering a sense of hope and optimism.
  • Improved physical health: Gratitude has been linked to better sleep, decreased pain levels, and improved cardiovascular health.
  • Increased happiness: Gratitude can increase overall levels of happiness and life satisfaction.

In a nutshell, if you practice gratitude or thankfulness regularly, it could have a positive impact on various aspects of your life.

I write the gratitude statements for 10 minutes.

Habit 2: Random Appreciation

Random Appreciation

Simply put, appreciating people is a loving act of recognising and acknowledging the value, contribution, and impact that people have on your life.

You can appreciate people by expressing gratitude or admiration for their actions, skills, contribution, achievements, or impact on your life.

You don’t have to do something grand to appreciate people. Appreciating people can be expressed in simple forms, such as:

  • Offering verbal praise or compliments
  • Writing thank-you notes or letters
  • Giving gifts or tokens of appreciation
  • Spending quality time with the person
  • Listening to and supporting the person when they need it

Since I started appreciating people in my life, my relationships with them have strengthened. When you appreciate people and recognise the impact they’ve had on your life, you will create a culture of kindness, appreciation, and love.

Doesn’t this create a more loving world?

According to my experience, when we appreciate people, it has several benefits, such as:

  • Increased positive emotions: When you express appreciation towards others, it can create positive emotions both for the person receiving the appreciation and for you.
  • Improved relationships: Expressing appreciation towards others can help to build stronger and more meaningful relationships. It can foster a sense of connection and trust between people and can deepen bonds between friends, family members, and colleagues.
  • Reduced stress: Acts of kindness and appreciation have been shown to decrease stress levels, and improve mood, and overall well-being.
  • Improved mood and energy: Expressing appreciation can boost your mood and energy levels, leading to increased motivation and productivity.
  • Increased sense of purpose: Acts of kindness and appreciation can give you a sense of purpose and fulfilment, by making a positive impact on people around you.
  • It shows respect and gratitude: By appreciating people, you are showing them that you value and respect them. You are also expressing gratitude for the positive impact they have on your life.

Long story short, appreciating people around us strengthens relationships, promotes positivity, expresses respect, boosts self-esteem, and creates a culture of appreciation.

I practice appreciation for 3 minutes.

Habit 3: Affirmations

Affirmations

Affirmations are positive statements that are used to reinforce a belief or behaviour. Affirmations are usually written or spoken and are designed to help people overcome negative self-talk and limiting beliefs.

Since I started writing and reading affirmations, I have observed the following changes in myself:

  • Increased self-confidence: Affirmations can help people to build self-confidence by focusing on their positive attributes and accomplishments.
  • Improved mood: Affirmations can be used to promote positive emotions and reduce negative emotions such as anxiety or self-doubt.
  • Increased resilience: Affirmations can help you to cope with setbacks or challenges by fostering a sense of hope and optimism.
  • Improved performance: Affirmations can be used to improve performance in various areas such as sports, academics, or career by promoting a positive mindset.
  • Increased self-awareness: Affirmations can help you to become more self-aware by encouraging reflection and introspection.

Experts say that affirmations can have a positive impact on almost every aspect of your life. Affirmations help build confidence, improve mood, increase resilience, improve overall performance, and so on.

I read affirmations for 5 minutes.

Habit 4: Chanting Ho’oponopono

Ho’oponopono

Compassionate Listening states, “Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian spiritual practice that involves learning to heal all things by accepting “Total Responsibility” for everything that surrounds us – confession, repentance, and reconciliation.”

This spiritual practice was discovered by a Hawaiian therapist, Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len.

Dr. Hew Len cured the whole ward of insane patients without meeting them even once!

How did he do it?

Through the magic of Ho’oponopono.

Dr. Hew Len reviewed every patient’s file and healed them by keeping his hand on the file and chanting this magical mantra!

He named the mantra Self Identity Through Ho’oponopono (SITH).

Ho’oponopono involves four key phrases:

  • “I’m sorry”
  • “Please forgive me”
  • “Thank you”
  • “I love you”

These phrases are used to help release negative emotions and promote healing and reconciliation.

Step 1: I’m Sorry (Repentance)

According to Ho’oponopono, you are responsible for everything in your life – pain, stress, misery, etc.

You can choose something that you know you have caused for yourself:

  • Obesity
  • Addiction
  • Anger issues
  • Health problems
  • Stress

Start by identifying something you are sorry for and say, “I am sorry!”

When you say, “I am sorry”, you accept that you are responsible and remorseful for the thing causing you suffering.

Step 2: Please Forgive Me (Seeking Forgiveness)

In this step, you seek forgiveness from the universe. And when you say, “Please forgive me”, mean it!

What do you ask forgiveness for?

You ask forgiveness for the suffering you caused to yourself that you identified in step 1.

Step 3: Thank You (Express Gratitude)

Again, you express this to the universe.

You thank:

  • The Universe
  • You for doing your best
  • Your body for carrying you

Step 4: I Love You (Love)

You express love to:

  • The Universe
  • Your body
  • Yourself
  • The house you live in
  • Your parents
  • Your friends
  • The Challenges in your life

Mean it and feel it when you say, “I love you!”

Habit 6: Self-Love

Self-love

Self-love is the practice of caring for and treating yourself with kindness, compassion, and acceptance.

By treating yourself with kindness, compassion, and acceptance, you can improve your self-esteem, resilience, mental and emotional well-being, physical health, and relationships with others.

I write 10 things every day that I love about myself. It takes me about 15 minutes.

Habit 7: Exercise

Exercise

You can start the day with some light exercises, such as stretching, walking, or jogging.

Your body is like a mechanical machine and it’s crucial to move it to keep it up and running. You don’t have to lift 100 lbs or perform cross fit, you can start by stretching your entire body, walking or jogging for 10-15 minutes.

I love stretching and I am a huge fan of Dr. Jo’s full-body stretching routine. You can follow her stretching routine by watching the below video:

Doctors recommend light exercise to people of every age group and it’s been found that regular exercise can have a wide range of physical and mental health benefits.

The benefits can be:

  • Improved cardiovascular health: Exercise can help to strengthen the heart and circulatory system, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • Reduced risk of chronic diseases: Regular exercise has been linked to a lower risk of chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and some forms of cancer.
  • Increased muscle strength and endurance: Exercise can help to build and maintain muscle mass and improve overall strength and endurance.
  • Better bone health: Exercise can help to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
  • Improved weight management: Regular exercise can help to burn calories and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Reduced stress and anxiety: Exercise has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, and improve mood.
  • Improved sleep: Regular exercise can help to improve the quality of sleep and reduce the risk of sleep disorders.
  • Increased cognitive function: Exercise has been linked to better cognitive function and a reduced risk of age-related cognitive decline.

I exercise for 45 minutes from Monday to Saturday.

Habit 8: Sunbathing

Sunbathing

My mentor recommended sitting or walking in the sun before 10 AM.

When I started to get early morning sunlight, it had several benefits, such as:

  • Boosting vitamin D production: Exposure to sunlight in the morning can help to boost vitamin D production in the body, which is important for maintaining strong bones and overall health.
  • Regulating circadian rhythms: Exposure to sunlight in the morning can help to regulate the body’s circadian rhythms, which can help to improve sleep quality and promote overall health.
  • Improving mood: Sunlight exposure can help to boost mood by increasing the production of serotonin in the brain, which is a neurotransmitter that is associated with feelings of happiness and well-being.
  • Increasing energy levels: Exposure to sunlight in the morning can help to increase energy levels and improve alertness, which can help individuals to feel more awake and productive throughout the day.
  • Enhancing cognitive function: Sunlight exposure has been shown to enhance cognitive function by improving memory, attention, and focus.

Many doctors and experts say that getting early morning sunlight can be an important part of maintaining overall health and well-being.

It can help to boost vitamin D production, regulate circadian rhythms, improve mood, increase energy levels, and enhance cognitive function.

However, it’s important to protect the skin from sun damage by using appropriate sun protection measures, such as wearing sunscreen and a hat, especially during peak sun hours.

I usually sunbathe between 8 AM and 8:30 AM for about 15 minutes.
